Website Proposal

My topic idea for my website is going to be a parody of the sports website foxsports.com. The name of my website is Joshing Sports ( yes it is my name, but it also stands for joking about something). I am going to take the stories that have and replace with funny things or stupid things that have happened to athletes. My main page is going to be general with the top story of the week, and my other pages will be different sports pages that have their own stories, such as NHL, NFL, NBA, etc.

I want to be able to put it a pop up or something like a welcome to the site or something. I want to be able to have graphics and stuff, but i am not exactly sur eon how to do anything, i am actually very confused with this website coding and i am finding it difficult. Hopefully i will be able to come up with some good ideas.

I anyone has any ideas or anything that could help me, please dont be afraid to comment!!!!

I need help, so anyone that would like to help is totally allowed!!!!

The art of Social Networking!!

To start off, both articles were written very well and they explore great views on the question of what we can truly accomplish with the internet and social networking. To start off the chapter It takes a Village to Find a Phone, was an amazing story of how there is always someone who feels the same way you do about a subject. Evan put that up, even know they got a new phone and still got all the info back. This was about what is right, and he posted, and everyone joined in ton stand up for something they all believe in. I thought it was amazing to see how many people, and how all of those people had the power to change the minds of the NYPD.

Second, was the Twitter, and Facebook article, which was also very well written. The difference with this article is that it explored different stories and how social networking sites could be the way to bring everyone together and in one of the stories, save peoples lives.

I get from these two stories is that we are all so involved with the internet that we can all join together to do things that one person could never accomplish on their own. I believe the Twitter and Facebook article is a stronger representation of this because the other one seemed a little out there for me. In understand that a lot of people have a large control, but i feel as if NYPD would not change their minds just because of what other people think. For the other article, i can understand, because so many people are affected by these social problems, such as racism, cancer, etc. and thats why it is so easy for people to spread the word and receive so much feed back. I am very happy i got to learn a little more about the positive things social networking is doing.

Yes men!

I am soo amazed with the work that Yes Men have done! I believe it is great to see the different views that people see situations, such as the oil spill. The problem a company trying to create positive press about something bad they have done is way to positive, and they attempt to create a sense that they are not in the wrong anymore but that they are here to help.

I love the way Yes Men portray their ads and show the true meaning behind something that has happened, such as "Chevron SHOULD clean up their messes", instead of other comments that stray away from the real issue, such as "Oil companies should put their profits to good use". It is not about the profits, its not about the communities, its about the big a** oil spill in the ocean that is killing innocent creatures and is ruining the environment.

I believe Yes Men should continue to do what they are doing, because it is now not only to make fun of things, but to bring the real truth of situations to the surface for citizens to see and read.

Catalogs Discussion

I believe that Jesse was just helping people out, we was nit making money, he was not making a name for himself, he simply was tinkering with something in his field. What the RIAA did was absurd, and they should not be able to do anything as long as the person is not making any money.

Just like we spoke of in class, a student using copyrighted materials, and is using them for educational uses or for the aid of the public, should not be public. Jesse was simply broadening his experience in his field. It is the same as us using any Youtube video or music, yes we borrow it, but only for educational purposes and not to make money. Once we want to start making money, we understand that we need to be creating our own works of art from scratch and i believe that Jesse knew this as well. If he knew this would of happened, he would of asked himself, why? All he has done is fool around with other peoples things and put them together and made them better in order to help out his fellow students at school.

As for the lawsuit, i believe Jesse did the right thing, because even if did win, all he had was a piece of paper, but now, he gave in, but he speaks to the world about the things that companies will do just because you are using their services or products.

Big heads up to Jesse for doing the right thing and telling the world his story and raising awareness.

Presentation on CGI

Here is my powerpoint for Tues Oct. 19, 2010...

http://www.slideshare.net/jowa30/cgi

The videos do not work, but there is two slides that have videos that will be played.

Best of the Best- Remix Project

For my Remix Project, i chose to create the "Best of the Best" sequence of 2 pictures and 1 video. For my first picture i chose to recreate a penalty shot in soccer. The vue is from behind the ball, but what the remix is, is that the hexagons in the ball have been replaced with jerseys from some of the best teams and players from professional soccer. I also took the background of the picture myself.

For my second Remix picture, i chose to create a side view of one end of a basketball court in which there are 7 different players from the NBA that have made a name for themselves. These shots are either the top ten players in the NBA or a shot of them doing some of the best dunks ever done in the NBA. Again, i took the background of the picture myself.

For my last section, the video, i chose to do a video reel of some of the best moments or players in sports history. I attempted to use a lot of different sports to show how many people take every sport seriously. There is some of the best plays in football, curling, horse racing, etc. I also added in crashes, and some cheering from some of the best players in sports.

Hope you Enjoy!

Here is the link for my video on Youtube-sorry video quality is not that great.

Remix Idea

I know i have been doing a lot of sports, but we were told to do what interest's us so i have got some feedback from some friends and i believe i have some strong ideas for this one if i can create them properly.

To start off, my first picture is going to be a side view of a basketball net. It will consist of 4-6 action shots of different basketball players to create on dunk. From start to finish, to make it seem like a frozen sequence.

Second, I think i am going to take a picture of a soccer goalie in position to make a save. I want one with lots of room and the goalie to one side. I will then take a soccer ball and blow it up to make it seem like it is the main focus of the picture with the goalie sort of blurred. I will cut out all the hexagonal shapes on the ball so its just the outline of the ball and the outline of the hexagons. Then i will replace the holes with different pictures of soccer jerseys so that they make up the soccer ball.

And last, for my video, it is going have a collaboration of a lot of sports to create one video. Some needs might include a baseball player diving into home plate, but before he lands, it fades inton a swimmer mid dive into a pool. There are many ideas i can do, so i am not sure completely all the details but am hoping to come out with a great final product that sort of brings all the sports together to show that they all incorporate the same sort of skills.

Thanks,

Josh Watson

The Web is Dead Article-Discussion

I believe the article is true. Slowly, these technologies such as the iphone, ipad, etc. are taking over the Web world. In my eyes, I think that the web is still there for us to use, but these technologies just make it easier for us to access our favorite parts of the web whenever we want, instead of having to be at a computer. Never the less, we are still always going to need the web, i think there is only so many things these "apps" can do and once on a computer, we can connect to everything. What i would like to know, is how far are these technologies going to go before they start taking over our lives? What I mean is, we already rely in them a lot, and the more they come out with, the more we are attached to them, so i would just like to know when they or when someone will jump out and stop them for making these technologies that empty our wallet and give us tunnel vision on how the rest of the world runs. Eventually we all will be using them and we will communicate through these and only these, making ourselves lazy to the point that we cant even pick up a phone to call someone or travel to their house to talk, eventually our world and everyone in it will be brain washed to "apps".

Remix Video!

I chose to do my remix video on road hockey, NHL, and video games videos which formed sequences of hockey shootouts. I attempted to fit the clips so that they flowed correctly with each other. I used 4 videos from Youtube.

Intro to myself!

My name is Josh Watson, I have been involved with many different types of clubs throughout my life, but once I found communications, I have never looked back. Before high school, I have always been a fan of big animated movies and special effects because of the way the artist can make something not real come to life. Once high school came, I was doing my own projects, which were not very good, and then I found a communications class. This class reminds me a lot of this course because we got to the chance to show our artistic ability, and be able to create master pieces of art, from scratch, or from a mixture of other artifacts. I am taking this class to further my knowledge of the electronic art and learn skills that will sometime in the near future help me be one of those artists that make a kid feel the exact same way I did.

Thank you for reading,

1st Mini Assignment

I chose the background of NHL 10 video game by EA sports because I have always wanted to help create one of the games. I used the image of the woman from Avatar because I have always wanted to be able to work beside the special effects artist from that movie because they are so talented. The image of the robot from Transformers is the same, it is a dream of mine to be able to create such a real experience with digital media for others to watch. The Apple logo is being used in my composite image because ever since I got my first Apple laptop, I have been in to design of any sort. I think it was the technology that apple can give that got me into this program. And last I used the Nike Just Do It towel because it's true, if everyone just did it, we would all have success in life. I also used the words never back down because i believe that if we never give up or back down that we will always do great things.

Thank you,

Josh Watson
